Food Distractions

Beep! Beep! Beep! You press the horn a couple more times as you rush to work. Your meeting is in 30 minutes, and you press the accelerator. Trying to make the appointment, you swing through a drive-thru for a quick lunch. Not only are you in a rush to get to your meeting, but also you are eating a hamburger now. You wolf it down, and keep going faster. You notice that now your tie has a drip of secret sauce and you lean over for a napkin. Unfortunately, you do not see the car in front of you until it is too late.

Most people do not think of this type of distraction when someone says, “Distracted Driving," However, this type of distraction can be just as deadly. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the likelihood of a crash jumps by 80% when a driver is distracted by food (Locher, 2009).

What does this mean? This means that your hamburger and fries can wait until you get to your destination.
